In response to this, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp have become vital tools for building virtual communities where queer Zimbabweans can connect and support one another safely.
Through closed and private Facebook groups, WhatsApp chats, and other online forums, LGBTQ+ Zimbabweans can share their experiences, offer advice, and provide emotional support. These spaces offer an essential refuge for those who feel isolated, afraid, or uncertain about their identities in the face of overwhelming societal hostility.
For example, platforms like WhatsApp allow for the creation of encrypted group chats that ensure confidentiality and provide a safe space for open conversations.
